More Homemade Holiday Framelit dies (as something other than a house)!

Time is nearly running out for this week's CASE-ing the Catty Challenge, which is to use the Baby section of the Stampin' Up! annual catty (pages 72-81) as inspiration for a project.  I discovered I didn't have a thank you card when I needed it, so here is what I came up with to start replenishing my supply:-

I love the border from the cover of the mini baby album at the bottom of page 77, so have used that as the starting point for my card.  Once I had decided on which colours to use, the border was very quick to stamp using these tools:-

Stamping with pencil erasers is a great tip that the lovely Nikki Spencer shared with me.  :)

The sentiment (from the Hip Hip Hooray card kit) is stamped in versamark & heat embossed with pool party embossing powder.  The dainty little tag has been cut from one of the house framelit dies from the new Homemade Holiday set.  Isn't it sweet?  (You can see what else I used a house die for here, in this post.)  A little thick crisp cantaloupe baker's twine & some dimensionals to lift the tag off the card base finish off this little notecard.

Homemade Holiday Framelit Dies (as arrows)!!!

This week at The Paper Players, LeAnne is celebrating her granddaughter's birthday with a CAS child's birthday theme challenge.  Happy Birthday Cassidy!  :)

I have gone for simple shapes & bright colours:-

I was inspired by Just Add Ink's recent challenge to use chipboard, so I created the arrows from multiple layers of cardstock which were stuck together after die-cutting.  To get the arrow shape, I used the cute little house die from SU's holiday catalogue, by simply trimming off the chimney!  :)  It was the perfect size for the sentiments from the Remembering Your Birthday set, which have been stamped in versamark & white embossed.

I had so much fun making this card, that I decided to make a matching treat holder to also play along with the current SUO Challenge which is to "Make it Geometrical!"  I decided to use a cylinder as my 3D geometric shape:-

I used all the same supplies, plus my trusty 1.3/8" circle punch to create the tube ends.  Once completed, I glued one end so that it remains on the tube & the other end has a small ribbon loop attached to it, so the recipient knows which end to remove to access the goodies!  :)

Here are the card & treat holder together:-

& here is a pic showing of the projects as well as die-cuts of the house, so you can see how I trimmed the chimney off!

If you want to see the die in action as an actual house, check out Christine's gorgeous creations here

CASE-ing the Catty #4 - Sunflower from the Flower Brenzy Bigz Die

Unfortunately I didn't manage to play in the challenge at CASE-ing the Catty last week, but this week the Wedding theme is perfect for a card DD needed:-

DD is attending a wedding that has a full on sunflower theme, so I used the layout of the bag on page 71 of the Annual Catty as my inspiration & added this bloom:-

I even used the same die!  I cut three layers of the largest 5 petal flower in Daffodil Delight, then placed the flowers back on the die, offsetting the petals, so that when I rolled them through the Big Shot again, I ended up with three 10 petal flowers.  I joined all three layers with a brad, then misted the layers with alcohol & scrunched them to get a 3D bloom.  The centre is a 1.3/8" circle which was embossed with the dotty folder (inked with Early Espresso ink), then added to a double layer of fringed 1.3/4" circles.

I liked the gold embossed dotty vellum on the inspiration piece, but the dots didn't work with the sunflower & the size of the panel, so I opted for the more formal diagonal stripes.  In contrast to that big bloom, I kept everything else pretty simple & found that the retired white textured cardstock was the best option for the background.

Both the flower & the sentiment are popped up on dimensionals.

The Paper Players - A Button & Coloured Baker's Twine

This week Sandy is hosting at The Paper Players & has provided the challenge of using a button on a project.  Here is my submission:-

& here is a close-up of the vintage button, which has it's own specially coloured "Mossy Meadow" baker's twine, courtesy of a little colouring from the lightest shade of the Old Olive Blendibilities markers:-

& here is a shot of the layered trim so you can see what a perfect match the coloured twine is to the Mossy Meadow ribbon!

The last few cards I have posted have been rather CAS, so I went to town on this card!  I brayered the background DSP with Crumb Cake ink to soften the starkness of the white hexagon print (from the Moonlight DSP Stack) against the vanilla cardstock.  While I had the brayer out, I coated my hexagon embossing folder with ink & used it to "stamp" my background panel.  I added a punched edge to the vanilla panel & layered up the three trims.  This whole panel is lifted on dimensionals.

The flowers were stamped with Rich Razzleberry & Blackberry Bliss in varying combinations & levels of saturation.  The leaves were stamped with Old Olive & Mossy Meadow.  The flowers & leaves were fussy cut & layered with dimensionals onto the card, then given a liberal sprinkling of tiny pearls.

To colour the trim, I laid some white baker's twine onto a piece of wax paper & used the side of the brush nib of the Blendibility marker to colour it.  I set it aside to dry for a while before using it.

I really enjoyed all the processes involved in this card & am very happy with the outcome.  Thanks for the inspiration, Sandy!
