Flying Birthday Balloon Girl

Have you seen the wonderful artwork of Michelle Perkett?  I was introduced to Michelle's digital stamps by the lovely Lynne.  When I first saw Michelle's rough sketch of the balloon girl I couldn't wait to have her.  Not just because she's so very cute, but because I just LOVE balloons (& lucky me works in a balloon shop)!  :)

I thought I would be brave & enter her in this week's challenge at Michelle's blog.  It is a colour challenge & here are the (very challenging) colours!

This is the very first digital image I have printed & my ink-jet printer was not very co-operative.  :(

Here is the outside:-

& the inside:-

Up close & personal:-

My chosen mediums for colouring are stamp-pad inks & an aquapainter using watercolour paper.  Unfortunately, try as I might, I couldn't set the printer ink (I tried a few different methods) but it kept running.  Does anyone have any suggestions that they have found successful?

For the card I used 185gsm medium Canson watercolour paper & I heat set the ink using clear embossing powder.  The ink was almost dry as it came out of the printer, so it is not a 100% set finish.  I also found that the image does not look as "crisp" as it should.

I chose to manipulate the image a little & made the clouds into separate items, so I could mount them as separate layers in the centre pop-up.

The cardstock, DSP, ribbon & inks are all SU.  I have added sparkly glitter to balloon girl's hair, dress, shoes & cupcake frosting, & to the clouds.  All the balloons have been coated in dimensional glaze to make them nice & shiny (like all good balloons should be)!

Hope you like her.  :)

Poppin' Colour Challenge

Here is my entry for Makeesha's colour challenge this week.  (After a few arguments with the computer it is finally loaded!)

Unfortunately, I didn't have inkpads or markers in any of these colours, so I felt the need to experiment!  For the circle stamped images I have used the "poppin' pastels" method, ie, stamped the image in versamark ink & then applied pastels (chalks) using a sponge tip applicator.  Using my stamp positioner I restamped the image in versamark & clear embossed to get a shiny raised image.  I then used an eraser to remove the excess "chalk dust".

To get the curved ends on the coloured strips I cut them slightly narrower than 1.3/4" & then slid an end of the strip into the circular opening of the 1.3/4" punch & punched off the end.

The images on the colour strips were stamped using versamark ink.

The circle mounts & image circles are all raised on dimensionals.

Card Components:
Cardstock:  Brocade Blue, Mellow Moss, Ruby Red, Very Vanilla
Ink:  Versamark
Stamp Sets:  SU Sock Monkey
Punches:  1.3/4", 1.1/2" & 1.3/8"Circles
Other:  Clear Embossing Powder, Dimensionals, SU Pastels, Grosgrain Ribbon

Pink & Celery Razzle

This is my entry for Makeesha's challenge this week.

Thank you for another wonderful layout Makeesha. This one is very versatile & one I'm sure many of us will use again in the future. :)

I have used the direct to rubber method to colour my image, but seeing as I'm somewhat lacking in the marker department, I picked up the colour from my pink inkpad lids using blender pens. Both circle layers are raised on dimensionals.

The Razzle Dazzle Image is also stamped with Versamark around the edge of the base card. Brads, ribbon & some piercing complete the card.

Card Components:
Cardstock: Whisper White, Certainly Celery, Pink Pirouette, Bazzill Linen White
Ink: Certainly Celery Marker, Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette
Stamp Sets: Razzle Dazzle
Punches: Scallop Edge
Other: CM Cutting Circles, Brads, Ribbon, Paper Piercing Tool, Dimensionals

What, no stamping!

This card was made for my DD's friend. She has a bit of a "thing" for buttons, so I had to add some to her card!

I created & cut the card on my trusty Robo. :)

Card Components:
Cardstock: Red (CM), Pink, Blue, Green (Bazzill Linen)
DSP: Sorry, can't remember!
Other: Buttons & Thread

Embrace Thanks

This is one of my all-time favourite cards. I was really happy with the simple layout & the slightly unusual colour combination.

The flowers were coloured using stamp pad ink & an aquapainter. Dazzling Diamonds were added to the centres of the flowers & dimensional magic was added to the tips of the stamens. The flowers are raised on dimensionals.

Card Components:
Cardstock: Whisper White, Basic Black, So Saffron, Watercolour Paper
DSP: So Saffron Patterns
Ink: Black Stazon, Basic Black, More Mustard, So Saffron
Stamp Sets: Embrace Life, Sock Monkey
Punches: Scallop Edge
Other: Satin Ribbon, Hodgepodge Hardware, Dazzling Diamonds, Dimensional Magic, Dimensionals

Swap Folder

I made this folder & card quite a while ago for my friend Jenni. It is an A5 Display Book covered with DSP.

I used the direct to rubber method of colouring to blend the colours of the image. I used a dabbing motion on the centres of the flowers to get the "furry" effect.

Folder & Card Components:
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Whisper White
DSP: Haiku, Good Friend, Windsor Knot, So Saffron Patterns, Tea Party, Kiwi Kiss Patterns
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Kiwi Kiss, So Saffron, More Mustard
Stamp Sets: Inspired by Nature, ? Alphabet Set (retired), Best Yet
Punches: Scallop Edge, Wide Oval
Other: Hodgepodge Hardware, A5 Display Book, Grosgrain Ribbon

Toblerone Stack

I created a "Toblerone Stack" as a quick, easy & edible gift! The stack consists of four 50 gram size mini Toblerones which have cardboard packaging. You could use regular size Toblerones - but boy, that would be a lot of chocolate for the recipient to eat! :)
To cover each Toblerone you will need two border strips approx 3/4" wide x 4" long (2cm wide x 10cm long) & a piece of DSP 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm). Adhere the border strips to the reverse side of your DSP. Then you simply wrap each Toblerone in its cover, securing with sticky strip. Stack your Toblerones & secure with ribbon, add a sentiment panel & your stack is ready to give.

Stack Components:
Cardstock: Kiwi Kiss, Cameo Coral, Rose Red, Pretty in Pink
DSP: Raspberry Tart
Ink: Pretty in Pink
Stamp Sets: SU SAB 2009 Yummy
Punches: Scallop Edge
Other: Satin Ribbon

Always Shadowbox Card

I was really keen to play along with Makeesha Byl's Inspiration Challenge #17 this week (view Makeesha's challenge) so I had to make a blog! Not something I was familiar with, so I have stumbled along & had some wonderful help, support & encouragement from Lynne along the way. Thanks Lynne :)

The card layout has been jingling around in my head for a while, so this was the perfect chance to get it out of there!

It is based on a shadow box card. The front layer is acetate & the rear panel is cardstock with the bird suspended on his swing in between the two layers.

I created a cutting file for the cage & bird swing & cut them out with my CraftRobo.

Card Components: (mostly Stampin Up)
Cardstock: Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, More Mustard
DSP: Windsor Knot
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Versamark
Stamp Sets: Always & matching Always in Bloom Wheel, Sweet Little Sentiments
Punches: Round Tab Punch, Scallop Edge Punch
Other: Grosgrain Ribbon, Acetate
